To test a series of promising possible electron cloud mitigation techniques as surface coatings and grooves, in the Positron Low Energy Ring (LER) of the PEP-II accelerator, we have installed several test vacuum chambers including i) a special chamber to monitor the variation of the secondary electron yield of technical surface materials and coatings under the effect of ion, electron and photon conditioning in situ in the beam line ii) chambers with grooves [3] in a straight magnetic-free section and iii) coated chambers in a dedicated newly installed 4-magnet chicane [4] to study mitigations in a magnetic field region. In this paper, we describe the ongoing R&D effort to mitigate the electron cloud

The measurements of electron Channeling Radiation (CR) have been performed at ELBE linear electron accelerator of the Forschungszentrum Dresden-Rossendorf. The aim of performing these experiments was to optimize radiation yield and spectral line width of CR in order to apply channeling radiation for preparing a monochromatic X-ray source. Diamond crystals can be used in relatively high electron...

Accelerator driven transmutation of waste is one complementary approach to deal with spent nuclear fuel as compared to permanent storage. High-energy protons generated by a particle accelerator collide with a heavy metal target producing neutrons. Long-lived radioactive isotopes interacting with the neutrons transmute into shorter-lived isotopes. To generate the high-energy protons efficiently,...

End Station A Test Beam (ESTB) is a beam line at SLAC using a small fraction of the bunches of the 13.6 GeV electron beam from the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS), restoring test beam capabilities in the large End Station A (ESA) experimental hall. ESTB will provide one of a kind test beam essential for developing accelerator instrumentation and accelerator R&D, performing particle and parti...
متن کاملSummary of SLAC’S SEY Measurement On Flat Accelerator Wall Materials
The electron cloud effect (ECE) causes beam instabilities in accelerator structures with intense positively charged bunched beams. Reduction of the secondary electron yield (SEY) of the beam pipe inner wall is effective in controlling cloud formation. We summarize SEY results obtained from flat TiN, TiZrV and Al surfaces carried out in a laboratory environment. SEY was measured after thermal co...
